At the center of the captivating rolling fields, lived a shepherd boy. His life was mostly untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to care for his flock of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the wind through the single tree on the mountaintop were his constant companions. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities inculcated in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

However, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. On one such day because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a mischievous plan.

Narratives of wolves hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a prank on the inhabitants.

One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but discovered nothing threatening.

The here boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This prank continued for a few days more. Yet, one noon, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy raced for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once violated, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
